Keynote: The Relational Neighbourhood Business

Business entered a new era 140 years ago when a store put the first price tag on a product. Their small act revolutionized commerce. What was once a conversational and often personal relationship between a business owner and community became a simple transaction. Today, thriving local businesses are finding ways to return to a more relational, and neighbourly, approach. This inspiring keynote talk explores the ways that neighbourism can inform and build small businesses that forge new bonds in the community.

About the Speaker

Dr. Preston Pouteaux is a beekeeper, neighbourhood enthusiast, and pastor at Lake Ridge Community Church here in Chestermere. He is an engaging speaker, writer, and curator of conversations about building thriving neighbourhoods. He is the author of the award-winning book, “The Bees of Rainbow Falls: Finding Faith, Imagination, and Delight in Your Neighbourhood [Urban Loft Publishers]. Since 2015 his syndicated column, Into the Neighbourhood, has been printed over one million times in weekly newspapers. Preston lives in Chestermere, Alberta, with his wife Kelly, their daughters Scotia and Ivy, and a few thousand honeybees. For more, visit intotheneighbourhood.ca

Keynote - Give your Attitude some Altitude!

Attitude is everything and it is contagious. We can’t control what life throws at us, but we can control our attitude about it. One of the key elements in business is healthy relationships and how people relate to you. Your customers, your staff, your peers and your investors will look at your attitude to gage their own. Business owners are facing more stresses than ever, but they can’t transfer that stress to their customers, clients or staff. People want to do business with and or work for business leaders who empower others to reach their full potential no matter what they are facing. Good leaders raise up their attitude not weigh down other people. Rise up your attitude and see your staff be more productive, your sales increase and your stress decrease.

Heather-Anderson

About the Speaker

Heather Anderson can’t fly, but she knows how to rock a cape!

Due to her father’s career in the RCMP, she moved many times between B.C and Alberta (7 times by the time she was 16). Moving to a new community every 2 – 3 years can take its toll on a growing mind but that experience taught Heather to adapt to her surroundings and embrace change, with a positive attitude. She often says, “You can’t control what happens to you, but you can control how you react to it!”. Her optimism, outlook and energy are contagious.

Throughout her career Heather has provided community development, entrepreneur coaching, business plan consulting and strategic planning for the public, private and non-profit sector. Her creative, innovative and barrier breaking mindset has earned her provincial and national awards for marketing and economic development projects.

Heather recently battled breast cancer and that journey reinforced some valuable lessons on dealing with change and adjusting attitudes to keep her personal power. Her mission now is to empower people to reclaim their drive and passion for what they do so they can fly and love where they live!! Heather believes there is a superhero in all of us; we just need to be bold and embrace the cape!
